“Romney stood in the middle of his supporters, his body engaged in handshakes and hugs, a smile hardened on his face to appease a battery of photographers releasing a salvo of flashes. He felt dizzy and it reminded him of the only time he’d taken a drag of a cigarette. That one puff had filled his lungs with smoke and set a scintilla of nicotine adrift in his bloodstream. He remembered the head rush, the way his blood had felt tangible like carbonated bubbles running through his veins. He remembered the nausea and how it had given him competing urges to sit and run wild….”
